The problem is your ports... it is just a matter of opening the right ones.
Did you contact arenanet to see which ports to open or did you open random ports?

Open TCP port 6112 if you haven't already, as someone already suggested. Try disabling "port triggering" also. From what I've heard those Netgear routers have caused problems with both Battle.net and GW, and these two things seem to get things going.

Yeah, I read something in a different thread about the router having a port trigger setting for starcraft which uses the same settings as battle.net (as well as GW). They say to remove that. In the port fowarding section, forward port 6112 (if it gives you a range go from 6116 to 6112) and for the IP address, enter the IP address you're computer is currently using. If you dont know, do this
Click Start
Click Run
type cmd and hit enter
in the dos box, type ipconfig
the IP address there will be the IP address you need to enter into the router to port forward 6112 to. Basically what that does is tell the router, if I get any packets sent from the outside (internet) to the router that are on port 6112, automatically send them to 192.168.1.100 (if that is the IP that you have) and then your network card will acknowledge it and process the connection.
I would still consider logging into the router and comparing the firmware version to the website I posted in the pervious message. Its always "usually" a good idea to have the latest as they fix issues.

Also, if youre using Win XP with SP2, try disabling the firewall and see if that makes it work. If it does, yo ucan make an entry in the firewall exception list to allow gw.exe (or whatever the execuable is).
